How a smart, cost-effective tech decision led to big gains in a client’s conversions.
Savidge Housing Group is a family owned and operated apartment rental company located in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. They’ve been a client of mine since I was a tenant of theirs in my first post-college apartment. The Savidges called me because they were concerned that the number of leads being generating from their website was slowly dropping. This led to a mini SEO audit. One obvious problem was that their website was developed at a time when mobile simply didn’t matter.
Fast forward to today. Google uses mobile friendliness as a ranking signal. Mobile is critical. In some places there are more searches coming from mobile than desktop. But not every business has the ability or desire to pay for a brand new website just to make gains in mobile usability.
Fortunately for some clients there is a reasonable middle path that I call a mobile retrofit. By creating media queries in their existing style sheets, I was able to coax their website into rendering and working well on mobile. This solution was simple and budget friendly, leading to a better mobile experience for their customers, a boost in search engine ranking due to their improved usability and an improvement in lead generation from their website.
