About Brian Reich

Brian Reich, is a computer consultant and IT professional from Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. He’s the owner of Reich Consulting, a small computer consulting business specializing in helping small businesses meet their IT needs. He also works full-time at SUN Area Career & Technology Center, a vocational technical school in New Berlin, Pennsylvania, where he manages all workstations, devices, and software on the network. He has also developed the school’s Web Services Intranet: a web-enabled platform that hosts custom applications available through any web browser.

Brian graduated from Bloomsburg University with a bachelors degree in Computer Science. He excelled at object-oriented programming and has applied his skills in many small to medium-sized projects for his current employer as well as his consulting clients.

Brian is an expert in identifying bugs in desktop computer systems and prides himself on being able to solve software problems, such as spyware infections an viruses, without a loss of data or a hard disk reformat. He is also skilled at managing many small business server technologies including Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Deployment Services, and Symantec Ghost.

Though his preferred computing platform is still Windows XP, Brian is a strong advocate of open source technologies. All his web development efforts are made using the open source Eclipse IDE, written in PHP 5, hosted on Apache, and utilize the PostgreSQL or MySQL open source relational database systems.

Brian has also embraced the philosophy that information should be free. With that idea in mind he has created the Reich Consulting blog, where he writes articles for beginners and experts alike with solutions to information technology problems.

When he’s not blogging, Brian enjoys reading about philosophy and religion, and numbing his brain in front of a good movie.
