If your printer isn't coming on any more, it's got bigger problems than the incompatibility with Windows Vista that this solution was meant to resolve. I know this sounds obvious but when you blog it back in make sure the connection is good and tight at both ends. I know the power on mine fits a little bit snug. After you press the power button does anything come up on the LED screen?

I followed the instructions exactly and it didn't print, I also set it up manually and it did state "Printer Mode" on my Multipass, but it wouldn't print. The "Print Mode" kept flashing so I tried to turn off the printer by pushing the on/off button and it would not work. Yes, in result I was forced to unplug it afterwards and then I plugged it back in....Guess what! It doesn't even turn on anymore!!!! What do I do???!!! :( My printer has been sabotaged!

Scott,

Since writing the article my MultiPass finally died, but if I remember correctly pressing the same series of buttons should take it out of S630 mode. Or just yank the plug :)

Brian,
A couple of things here. I went through the list on the HP website (same as the one you presented) and my unit isn't on there. That's ok. I'm happy for the info that you have provided me that allows me to use this, at one-time pretty expensive, printer for more than an over-sized paper weight. My last question, above, really means, how can I "un-fool" the copier into thinking that it is an S630? I can always put it back into this mode that allows it to work through my PC but there may be times that I just want to scan/copy a document. Maybe this isn't possible anymore without it being connected to the PC. Please enlighten me. Thanks again for your time and knowledge.

Scott,

Unfortunately that's what I'm talking about when I mentioned Canon's abysmal support for older models. Their support website isn't link friendly, but if go to the support page for the MultiPass product line there is a FAQ which states that all of the models listed support Windows 7. If your model is absent from the list, then they have no plans to support it. The MultiPass models we've been discussing are not on that list, and unfortunately I haven't yet found a way to use them without official Canon support. If it helps, here is Canon's official list of supported MultiPass Models:

MP130, MP140, MP150, MP160, MP170, MP180, MP190, MP210, MP240, MP250, MP360, MP370, MP390, MP450, MP460, MP470, MP480, MP490, MP500, MP510, MP520, MP530, MP560, MP600, MP610, MP620, MP700, MP730, MP750, MP760, MP780, MP800, MP800R, MP810, MP830, MP950, MP960, MP970, MP980

Brian,
I do have a question though. If I want to use the MPf50 as a scanner/copier and not just as a printer, what do I have to do to the device to make it operate as such? It won't be operating through the PC, just as a stand alone copier.

Scott:

Glad I could help! There are few things that annoy me more than the utter lack of support Canon provides for their older models. The MultiPass F-Series were a great line of printers, and it would pain me to throw it out just because Canon won't take the time to update their drivers!

I have been fooling around with an F50 for quite some time trying to get it to work. It worked some time ago on XP and my partner and I have both gone to Win7. I found this blog and follwed the directions, and after going through all of the nozzle cleaning and print head alignment, it now works just fine. Thanks for the tip!!!

I can't tell you for sure, but I kind of doubt it. Canon stopped making drivers for this printer a long time ago.
